Forgiving Is Great

In 1944, Germany surrendered to the Allied Forces, and all German soldiers in Russia became prisoners of war. In one Russian city, there were twenty thousand German soldiers under the supervision of the Russian military. One day, the prisoners were being transferred from one camp to another, and they had to walk along a long road. Along the roadside, thousands of women stood crying and shouting. They had lost their fathers, husbands, and sons to the German soldiers during the war. The scenes were chaotic and terrible, and even the Russian guards could not control the situation. Suddenly, a woman came out from the crowd and asked the guard for permission to speak to the prisoners. The guard agreed, but instead of speaking, she took out some food and offered it to the hungry soldiers. Moved by her kindness, all the soldiers kneeled down to her. This act of kindness was a significant news event at that time.
