Yangtze River

The Yangtze River is not only famous in China, but throughout the world. Its water originates from high mountains in Tibet, and it covers almost one-fifth of China's land. Minor ethnic groups living along the river, from Tibet to Chungking, depend solely on the river for their livelihood. Although they worship the Yangtze River, they have their own distinct cultures, and have lived alongside the Chinese for centuries, becoming almost Chinese themselves.
In the middle part of the Yangtze River lies Chungking, which boasts a population of over twenty million people and has been dubbed the "Little New York" of Asia. Thousands of years ago, there were numerous Buddha figures lining the riverbanks. Today, Chungking is a bustling metropolis.
The Yangtze River is also famous for its Three Gorges, which are as large as four football fields and forty floors high. Visitors can take a cruise on a steamer with two hundred rooms, and every year, millions of people embark on this sightseeing adventure.
