Walking Ten Thousand Miles

We Chinese have an old saying. It is better to walk ten thousand miles than read ten thousand books.
It is true in some sense, but not entirely. Books, knowledge, and the walking experience are different things.
If we read ten thousand books, we shall a learned person. But, if we travel ten thousand miles, we have only the knowledge of the areas we walked.
In the ancient days, you have had to depend on a horse carriage to travel. This is good to know more about the places you go. The results are better.
But, today we travel by plane, only from city to city. We can know roughly about cities, but not in detail.
So, it is better to read books about these places first. Then we can go by either plane or ship according to our place. This should be better.
But, still today we have a better way to travel. We can just sit at home and watch documentaries.
