Love Poems Of West And East

“A lovely body form is never cast aside. And so this maid was chosen. To be a King’s bride. If she but turned her smiling, a hundred loves were born. There is no art, no graces, but by her looked forlorn.”
This is a Chinese poem, called Chang Hen Ge, very famous in poem world. But, once translated into English, all the beautiful taste of poem is gone. Even we cannot catch the exact meaning of original poem.
“The red bean grows in southern lands, with Spring its tender twine. Gather for me some more I pray, of fond remembrance to the sign.”
This is also a Chinese love poem, easier to understand, but still it cannot express the original feeling of the poem.
“Love is the flower, marriage is the fruit.”

In Finland, if young people wish to fall into love, they must have the preparation to marry without which they should not have love together.
“Perfect love does not come till the first grandchildren.”

We, Chinese, have the same feeling that a husband and a wife have lived together all their life. But, they do not recognize their love to each other until they have grandchildren.
