Listen More, Speak Less
The phrase of “Listen more, speak less” comes from Bible of Old Testament and also in the play of “Hamlet” written by Shakespeare, there were words of “Listen more and speak less”, spoken by the Prime Minister of Denmark to his son who were going to France for further study.
We all admit that a person who speaks too much is really tedious. It is better to be a listener to hear good words from a learned man to improve our knowledge which can be used in our daily life in association with other people.
We, Chinese, have a saying: “Silence is gold” which is not entirely right in dealing with people. In this society, we must introduce ourself by ourselves to let people know who we are or what we have as far as our knowledge is concerned.
If we keep our mouth closed, no one will know us whether we are a person of ignorance or a man of knowledge. The best way is that we must speak properly at a time we should speak, to let others know who we are.
But, still we must be very careful to speak our words with friend to whom we must not speak offensive words. An improper word may spoil our friendship which we have built with each other for many years.
